A family just wanted to go out on the balcony and enjoy the evening. They expected a beautiful night, maybe some cocktails… just hanging out. But their Golden Retrievers? They had other plans.
Was it their excitement that caused them to accidentally turn the lock or something more nefarious? We’ll never know. We do know they locked four people out on the balcony. One Golden was immediately hit with such panic, they initiated rescue protocols immediately. The other two Goldens seem pretty chill about the whole thing.
The four residents? They were okay, but they were stuck for 2 hours waiting for someone to save them, as all rescue efforts by the Golden failed miserably.
I loved the panic on the one Golden’s face as they furiously pawed at the door. So… many… regrets.
We have had the same thing happen to us, carried out by so many of our fur babies at various points in our life. Cats who locked themselves in bathrooms, dogs who locked us out of the house. As annoying as it is, it’s always also ridiculously funny for some reason.
TikTok’ers are pointing out the positives in this situation: “At least he’s trying to save you.” and “He’s trying so hard.” Those paws are really flying!
Why Goldens Are Always ‘Accidentally’ Locking People Out

Goldens are forever “puppies at heart”, who act like toddlers who like to touch every single thing in the house. In this case, that includes sliding doors and handles. They must be booped. If your people are outside, you must stand up and paw incessantly until you get their attention, or maybe accidentally deploy the lock.
It’s not malicious. They just can’t stand to be without those they love, so they follow them everywhere. They’re big dogs who tend to lean into everything with their full body weight, which can also initiate problems. In other words, there are a million different ways for them to accidentally activate locks, but it’s all typically because they don’t want to be without their people, even for a minute!

In this case, it all ended well, and they have a funny story to laugh about. They’ll definitely think twice before they all head out without the Goldens and close the door. Maybe that’s the lesson the Goldens were trying to teach all along?
