CM Punk has done a lot for pro wrestling.
So has his wife AJ Lee.
But what they have done for the world of animal rescue might be bigger than what they have done for the sport they compete in.
The two successful pro wrestlers who were each involved in this weekend’s main event at WWE Survivor Series, are some of the biggest stars in the sport because of the way they connect with fans.
People love them because of who they are. A big part of who they are is their pet.
And because of that, Larry, the couple’s dog, became a true superstar.
Sadly, the poor pup passed away.
“The grief we carry is the price we pay for unconditional love,” Punk wrote on his Instagram page. “Our little Larry crossed the rainbow bridge, wrapped tightly in our arms. He was safe and happy. Surrounded by love. We rescued Larry from @pawschicago in February of 2015 and he changed our lives. I could never in one million years find the words to properly express how much we loved him nor how much joy brought us. Nothing I write, no pictures I post would do him justice. He lived a long amazing life. He watched sunsets, he chased skate boards. He made everywhere we went with him home. What a privilege to be so heart broken and devastated for having experienced such a bond. I wouldn’t change anything. Our boy is at rest. The house is quiet but we still hear the jingle of his necklace and the tip taps of his little feet on the hardwood floors. He will always be near. We will always feel him. Our hearts are broken. Until we see you again, sweetest Bobo. We love you. Forever.”
Larry might not have looked like a superstar and he didn’t have a great start to his life.
He was rescued from the shelter, a shelter he was returned to three times after he was initially adopted. He was adorable, but not in the traditional sense. He was missing teeth, he was named after the Wolfman because of his teeth, and he fit in perfectly with the married couple.
Larry had his own merchandise sold through WWE and he was a big fan of hanging out with his fellow superstars behind the scenes.
Wrestlers would bring Larry up in storylines because he had so many fans. Anyone who knew about Larry would want to be involved with him because he was one of the most popular superstars in WWE.
Losing a pet is never fun, and the way CM Punk and Lee treated their dog proved that they not only gave him a great life, but truly loved him. Larry had the life all dogs should dream of, at least after he found his forever home.
While we obviously offer our condolences to the family for their great loss, we also thank them for sharing the story of Larry. If Larry’s story doesn’t encourage you to adopt, not shop, what will?
Larry is a perfect example of a dog who just needed a chance. Larry didn’t care that CM Punk is the heavyweight champion. He doesn’t care that both his parents crushed it at Survivor Series. He doesn’t care what his people did at work. He just wanted to be with them. And whenever it was possible, he was right by their side.
Rest in peace, Larry, and thanks for all the good your story will do for dogs just like you. You proved a shelter dog can be a true superstar and become loved worldwide.
Hopefully a few cages are emptied in your honor, boy. With your family’s help, you certainly showed the world what a great underdog can do.
