Golden Retriever’s Bold Refusal To Leave Grandma’s House Should Win an Award

Anyone who grew up with a beloved matriarch knows the true pain of having to leave her house. Grandmas, Nanas, Mimis, and Gigis are the ones who hold the family together—the real MVPs. They’re who you go to when you’re sick or need a hug, when you need advice, and all the days in between.

No one understands this more than Honey. The sassy Golden Retriever loves going to her nearly 80-year-old grandma’s house so much, it’s quite the task to get her to leave (and it’s pretty hilarious and relatable)!

I don’t know about you, but the bond I had with my Gram seems to be the same as what sweet Honey has with her grandma. Sorry to Mom, but the funny Golden Retriever has chosen her one true person, and she’s not leaving without a fight!

The 20-second video shared by @delaniegilbride is clearly a scene from my childhood when my mom tried to persuade me to leave Gram’s—I wasn’t having it, either! With the caption, “and Gram eats it up every time,” Honey’s tantrum only gives Grandma more power!

At almost 3 years old, Honey’s already figured out what works to get her way. If I were the lucky chosen one on the receiving end, I’d eat it up, too!

“‘You’re tearing this family apart’ – the dog probably,” one person joked in the comment. “She’s home. She said, ‘You better hurry and get to your home,'” another added. “Only love can hurt like this,” another wrote.

We can’t choose who our pets love the most, and yes, it can hurt. For Honey’s mom, this kind of dramatic meltdown is a regular occurrence, and sometimes it’s extra heavy on the drama!

Dogs Give Seniors Purpose

As far as Golden Retrievers go, Honey’s just doing her part for the breed. These pups will soak up any and every bit of attention they can get, and that’s why we adore them so much. But for older people, there’s more to it.

Seniors have good reason to enjoy the companionship of a dog. Their company aids in better mental and emotional health, and because they need activity and stimulation, you can bet daily exercise via walks or fetch will become part of the routine.

There’s no doubt about it—grandmas rule. It looks like Honey’s Gram’s dog and Mom should just move on with her life. Honey has spoken.
