Thanksgiving has come and gone, and it’s just us and the leftovers now. You best believe I froze some green bean casserole! Luckily, it’ll only be a few more weeks before my family is engaging in a similar feast for Christmas, and I can’t wait!
Over the holiday, though, there was one giant Newfoundland who totally stole the show. Chewy the Newfie came to his 95-year-old grandma’s rescue, and his motivations were mostly pure. He really wanted to help her. He swears he only wanted to catch some turkey drippings a little bit.
Chewy the Newfie was in for an amazing surprise for all of his help, though: he wasn’t just assisting her while getting the turkey out of the oven… it was specifically a turkey made for him! Given that Chewy is definitely 200 pounds or better, he can definitely take down that whole turkey himself.
In this video, we see her put it on the ground, but rest assured that there were people nearby to watch. He probably got a couple of free-for-all bites before someone swept it up to carve it for him! They know how to care for their boy!

Chewy’s grandma is his favorite person in the world, and Chewy is actually living the best life possible, because he lives right next door to her! He goes to see her every single day, and every day is more special than the last. She knows how to make her boy feel loved!
It was her idea to bake him his own turkey, and what a smart idea! Now, he has snacks for at least a few days, and he’ll be sleepy! Turkey Tired is no joke!
How To Safely Give a Dog Turkey
Turkey is actually one of the better foods you can give dogs: it’s relatively lean, even in the “dark meat” parts. Ground, baked, freeze-dried, it doesn’t matter. They’ll love it every time!
If you ever find yourself in possession of a turkey that you want to feed your pup, follow Chewy’s grandma’s lead. Any meat you give a dog should be:
-
Baked, boiled, or grilled. Not fried.
-
Cooked all the way through.
-
If oil is necessary, use only a little.
Seasonings, copious amounts of butter, or turkey that’s been deep-fried in oil are all bad for your dogs. They’re delicious, but we have to look out for our furry friends. It’s good to know Grandma always has Chewy’s back!
