If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like when a pup takes its first steps outside, a Basset Houndbreeder and rescuer—and human mom to seven hounds herself—is giving social media followers a firsthand look at her Basset Hounds’ first experience with “outside.” The curious cuties are so much fun to watch as they explore the chill of winter before heading back into the warm comfort of “inside.”
In a series of videos shared to social media, a winter litter of Basset Hounds (could they be any cuter?) can be seen going outside for the first time. As winter nips at their paws, the sweet canines explore the family’s front porch, sniffing and nosing around and checking out what’s underneath the outdoor furniture.
The pooches’ human writes:
“Scroll for five videos of puppies going outside for the first time. Winter litters are always more difficult because it’s too cold for them to go outside and play. They were really into it today however and then I had to warm them up with a warm towel in the heater. They had a great time.”
The stunning pups’ curiosity is so captivating, we can’t stop watching. Judging by the comment section, we’re not alone.
“This is great! Never saw Basset Hound puppies before. A lot of love with the new family members! Thanks for sharing.”
Another added, “How cute OMG.”
“Soo cuteeee!!! I bet this is what heaven looks like,” shared another.

When Can Basset Hound Puppies Safely Go Outside?
A Basset Hound puppy can safely go outside (within the confines of mom and dad’s fenced-in backyard) once he or she has had the first round of vaccinations, provided no sick dogs have been in the area. Experts recommend waiting until the dogs are about 16 weeks old and have completed their vaccinations before going to public areas like dog parks.
Basset Hounds benefit from socialization at a young age, but not at the expense of their health. It’s important to introduce your precious pooch to other dogs in a safe environment, with dogs you know aren’t sick, until yours has completed its vaccinations, which varies by breed and by doctor.
Until then, these Basset Hounds’ first trip outside is serving up all the dog socialization we need.
