Cockatoo ‘Showing Off’ for Her Boyfriend on His First Visit To Her House Is Beyond Precious

Sweet Pea, a stunning white Cockatoo, had her first date with her “boyfriend,” and the results are so sweet and heartwarming, Sweet Pea makes a case for Cockatoos being the most entertaining addition to one’s family. In a video shared to TikTok by Sweet Pea’s human mom, the gorgeous bird can be seen hosting another white Cockatoo named Chief, his first time visiting her at home. The birds have a full conversation before Sweet Pea raises her crest to show she’s happy in the company of her new beau.

Sweet Pea’s human mom, TikTok user Wendy Albright, regularly shares content of her precious bird, earning the Cockatoo legions of fans.

“Sweet Pea makes me cry every time,” wrote one of the bird’s adorers. Another added, “I love this.”

“Aww,” another commented, “So cute.”

If Sweet Pea looks like she’s flirting, she is. Cockatoos exhibit a variety of attention-getting behaviors to earn the adoration of the opposite sex.

How Cockatoos Flirt

Both male and female Cockatoos try to get the attention of the opposite sex—the bird’s version of flirting.

Cockatoos are known to use behaviors such as bobbing, nuzzling, whistling, and dancing to get attention and show affection. In the wild, male Cockatoos perform elaborate courtship rituals like drumming on trees with specially crafted sticks, all to catch a female bird’s eye.

In Albright’s video, both Sweet Pea and Chief can be seen lifting the feathers on top of their heads, a ritual called raising the crest. While not exclusive to flirting or courting another bird, Cockatoos do raise their crest as a form of communication to convey emotion.

Cockatoos will often raise their crest to show excitement, curiosity, fear, or agitation. The birds can also raise their crest in an aggressive fashion to appear larger and establish dominance.

In the case of Sweet Pea and Chief, both birds use the habit of raising their crest as a sort of love language and part of a courting ritual.

Now that Sweet Pea and Chief’s first meeting was a success, we’ll look for more content from the bird’s human mom. This is a romance we approve of.
