Corgi Reunites With Their Giant Malamute Best Friend After a Year Apart and It’s Pure Joy

An adorable video has already racked up 1.7 million views in the 22 hours since it’s been posted, all because it’s just *that cute*. Viewers immediately respond with, “This reunion is giving me all the feels!” and “Awww so adorable! Love it!’

A Corgi and their giant Malamute friend, have not seen each other in a year. When the Corgi realizes who they’re going to see, they pull on their leash -a total blur of little paws and utter determination. The Malamute is just chilling until they get there, and they realize who it is, then all bets are off! It’s all fur and joy. There’s full-body wagging and nuzzling and some record-setting happy pups vibes. It’s adorable, take a look.

I like it when they compose themselves long enough to “shake” and get their treats, because — TREATS, and then they get right back to being obsessed with each other. This is pure dog friendship in its rawest form, and it’s so endearing to watch.

Why Dogs Never Forget Their Best Friends

There’s a fascinating essay by Dr. Marc Bekoff Ph.D., in Psychology Today titled “Do Dogs Recognize ‘Dog’ and what they’re feeling from afar?” He delves into all the different factors that help dogs recognize whether a dog’s familiar to them, what their mood and intentions are, and which senses help them determine this. For any of us who have ever seen their dog recognize another pup from a distance, it’s a great and informative read.

Dogs use a combination of smell, sight and sound to recognize each other. By combining scent cues with visual signals and familiar vocal tones, they can tell not just who another dog is, but also how that dog feels, even before getting close.

Even after all that science, it really just comes down to the fact that dog friendships don’t fade, they just wait. These two remind us that love doesn’t need words — it only needs that one moment of recognition. That spark of joy when two old friends find each other again and pick up right where they left off — tails wagging and hearts full. All is right with the world once again.
