Losing your dog in the woods is one of the most terrifying experiences of all time. It happened to me just once, and you best believe I have my dogs on lockdown ever since. It’s so scary! We all baby our dogs too much: How are they supposed to survive in the wild? Who will rub their bellies in the wild?!
On Sunday, October 19, one Brussels Griffon made this a reality for her parents. They were so worried about her, but she managed to make it out of the woods… Unscathed? Maybe not, because she was making a very scary face. Seconds before being rushed to the ER vet, they made a discovery:
There are not very many videos that make me laugh out loud. I look at these things all day. I have seen it all, and Uma the Brussels Griffon genuinely made me laugh so hard it hurt. I was so scared! What if something bit her, or she seriously injured her jaw?!
She didn’t. It was a pine cone. She has a pine cone in her mouth and absolutely no idea what to do about it. It was stuck between her teeth. You just can’t see it at first because she’s a brown dog! As soon as I saw it, I lost my mind!

She has a brother, too, and they actually live near Brussels! Beautiful scenery, lots of pine cones to almost attempt to eat. Or at least, hold in her mouth and scare the daylights out of her family!
Can Dogs Eat Pine Cones?
Listen, it’s not like Uma had the chance to actually eat any of her pine cone, but it was undoubtedly a little scary, anyway! Pine cones don’t seem like they’d be good to eat.
They’re not. While pine cones aren’t toxic to dogs, they’re not exactly safe to eat, either. They’re super hard, which poses risks to their teeth, and they’re pretty pointy when they break apart. If a dog consumes a pine cone, they are at risk of internal bleeding. If you ever think your dog has managed to eat one, or parts of one, contact your vet immediately!
Luckily, Uma is all good. Once they got it out, she went back to normal. Thank goodness we’ll remember this forever!
