Persian Cat Considering Going Back To Sleep Is All of Us on a Monday Morning

Remember when Garfield the Cat would wake up and recite his signature catchphrase, “I hate Mondays?” We’ve found the modern-day equivalent of the sardonic cartoon cat. In this case, it’s a young male Persian cat named Atchoum, who’s treating every day like a dreaded Monday.

In a hilarious video shared to social media, the diva Persian cat can be seen sauntering into the family room after waking up from a nap. Captioned, “When Atchoum wakes up from a nap, I always feel like he’s either installing an update… or seriously considering going back to sleep,” the video charmingly depicts what all of us feel like on a Monday morning, or after waking up from a really good nap.

The clever cat sits himself down, eyes still adjusting to being awake, as he lets it sink in that naptime is over. Or is it?

Why Atchoum the Persian Cat Is Going Viral

Atchoum’s antics are going viral, and we understand why. This cat video is side-splitting and completely relatable. Social media commenters had a great time discussing this feline’s foray into being awake.

“I’ve never seen a cat need coffee before,” commented one follower. Another added, “He is gorgeous, cross breed of an owl and the Grinch.”

“Okay,” commented another. “I can’t decide if he looks like a cat, a dog, or an owl.”

Another shared, “Of all the kitties I’ve seen online, Atchoum is my favorite.”

Why Persian Cats Sleep So Much

This lethargic Persian cat has reason to be exhausted. Persian cats are big sleepers, sometimes logging 16 to 20 hours per day. Known for their laid-back, sedentary lifestyle, the breed is often considered lazy. In truth, they’re just tired.

In fact, Persian cats sometimes sleep so much during the day that they’re raring to go at night, which is less ideal for humans longing for a good night’s sleep. To keep your Persian from sleeping the days away and packing on the pounds, provide playtime before bed and toys during the day. Your Persian may still angle for long naps, but at least he or she won’t keep you up all night.
