Golden Retriever’s Sadness Over Seeing Parents Dressed to Go Out Tugs at the Heartstrings

I still marvel at how dogs just sense things. They always seem to know when someone is sick, sad, or about to leave. Sure, seeing their parent grab their coat and car keys definitely tips them off to a departure. Yet the emotions a canine expresses when a loved one walks out the door seems like they’re worried you’ll never come back, and that’s just for going out an an errand. I hate to imagine what they’re thinking when they see bags packed for vacation.

Bowen the Golden Retriever picked up on those exit cues when his parents were going out for the evening. The fancy clothes, the time spent getting ready… Bowen knew they were headed for a big event and felt very left out.

In the TikTok from @bowen.the.golden, the canine cutie sat with a somber look on his face as his mom leaned down to comfort him. She looked like she was about to go somewhere that required formal attire, and her fashion choice alerted Bowen that he wouldn’t be her plus one.

“Bowen gets big feelings when we get dressed up to go out,” the onscreen text explained, with the caption adding, “Almost as bad as seeing suitcases.”

The gorgeous Golden had his paw in his mom’s hand, possibly pleading for her to stay or invite him along. His mom saw the wounded expression on his face and kneeled down to reassure him. Still, Bowen looked inconsolable.

Followers Sided With Bowen

Everyone needs to go out on the town once in a while and there’s no reason to feel guilty about it. Our fur babies may feel sad at first but will rebound the second we get home. However, followers took issue with the situation and advocated for Bowen.

“Wait… you still left? After he poured his heart out to you? Where’s your humanity, girl?” one asked.

“I am his pawttorney and the court hereby declares you must taketh him,” another joked.

“I would immediately have to put my jammies back on. Nope, couldn’t do it,” a follower shared.

Hopefully Bowen’s parents were home early and found a way to make it up to him.
