Border Collie’s Sweet Way of Bringing Deaf Sister Home Will Make You Cry

At some point, you’ve probably heard the phrase, “You are your brother’s–or sister’s–keeper. Whoever told it to you more than likely wanted you to look out for a loved one. Well, that same desire to care for family members extends to pet family members, too.

One Border Collie named Bear is making people cry because of the way he takes care of his sister Honey. His human parent, Kelly Dinham (@kellydinham), shared a video on TikTok that shows Bear and Honey playing in the yard. Honey happens to be deaf, and when Bear leaves her behind, he shows just how much of a sweetheart of a brother he truly is.

The video text overlay explains, “This is how Bear brings his deaf sister home.” And Honey is one lucky girl! As shown in the clip, her brother genuinely watches out for her.

Bear and Honey are playing in a yard, and Bear starts to run back home. He doesn’t notice that Honey doesn’t follow him. Though when one of his human parents points it out, Bear quickly races back to find his sister. Bear gets Honey’s attention and signals that they’re going back home. From there, they race off back home. What a cute pair they are!

Bear and Honey’s Bond Is Very Special

Some pet parents who have dogs that don’t hear well will train them with doggy sign language. Others may work with their other pet family members to help them interact better with their siblings. But some pets may develop other ways to communicate. In this case, Bear didn’t need any training to learn how to look after his sister.

“We never taught him how to do this; it’s something he’s learned all on his own,” Dinham wrote in the post caption. She went on and added, “He knows Honey is deaf, and we say ‘where’s Honey? Where’s your sister?!’ And he runs to get her every time.” That’s exactly what Bear did in the video.

Bear is one loving dog! “He’s the best brother, and their bond is so special,” gushed Dinham. There’s no doubt she’ll be safe with Bear because he’s going to make sure his sister is alright.
