Several features of Goldendoodles make them positively unmistakable. From their playful personalities, boundless energy, and incredibly fluffy coat—they’ve got a signature look and style for sure. In recent years, the rise of this Golden Retriever-Poodle hybrid seems to have taken the pet world by storm. With options like mini, 1st generation, 2nd generation, and more, this recognizable dog breed has grown immensely in popularity.
Now, every once in a while, you may see one that is hard to identify, which begs the question… is that actually a Goldendoodle? Particularly, in the case of a video shared on social media that highlights the stark difference between one of these pups before and after she goes swimming.
In a recent TikTok shared by @milathegirlydoodle, viewers can see a typical “dood,” as they’re often called, walking around a sunny pool deck. The dog, a brown-and-white floofy Goldendoodle named Mila, is seen in the next clip, standing knee-deep in the water. Since only her feet and lower legs are submerged, viewers cannot predict the transformation that is about to take place.
The on-screen text reads, “Took my dog out for a swim and I think she shape shifted in the water cause wdym that’s the same dog.” And in the next clip, we quickly see how accurate that statement is. Mila enjoys a nice cool-off before viewers get to see the final result.
At the end of the video, Mila is looking deadpan into the lens, and we have to admit—she’s pretty unrecognizable. Fully drenched with water dripping from every inch, Mila’s poof has been transformed into a slick body-hugging style while she looks unamused at the ordeal.
From Fluffy to Flat in Seconds
It’s the kind of before-and-after that stops you in your tracks—and clearly, viewers felt the same way. The comments section quickly filled with jokes about Mila’s new ‘do. One viewer commented on Mila breaking the number one rule about perms: “Isn’t it the first cardinal rule of perm maintenance that you’re forbidden to wet your hair for at least 24 hours at the risk of deactivating the ammonium thioglycolate?” 😂 Another joked, “It’s that hair relaxer mom🤭🤭.” Others chimed in that Mila is simply a “master of disguise.”
Of course, what we’re really seeing is just the dramatic effect water can have on a Goldendoodle’s famously fluffy coat. When dry, their thick, curly fur gives them that signature teddy bear look. But once soaked, all that volume disappears, revealing a much slimmer frame underneath—often to hilarious effect.
