As a mom to two cats and a dog, I will say that I am a big fan of unlikely animal friendships. If we believed all the stereotypes, we’d think that cats and dogs simply cannot get along… but in many cases, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Regardless of what species they might be, sometimes, their personalities just mesh.
And while there is most certainly a very chaotic element to the friendship between the Golden Retriever and Tabby cat in the video below, you can’t deny that it’s true love (in its own way).
The dog’s mom, @adriaandoatmeal, shared a TikTok video of the bond between her pup, Oatmeal, and her mom’s cat, Nuggie (short for Chicken Nugget, of course). While Oatmeal is a bit more chill, Nuggie is definitely the opposite of chill, but for these two, it works.
Sometimes Nuggie does have a weird way of showing his love (like smacking Oatmeal around a bit), but it doesn’t stop his dog BFF from wanting to come around. This is a very tolerant Golden, which is so typical of this breed’s personality. What a sweetheart!
Oh, and they both look great in overalls, but that practically goes without saying.

It’s also worth pointing out that they have so many adventures together on the farm their families live on, including a barn that Nuggie has all to himself. For a cat with this much energy, it’s totally necessary—he just isn’t the kind of guy who could be cooped up inside all day, or he’d definitely be bouncing off the walls.
In another video, Oatmeal’s mom showed how Nuggie has a way of climbing the fence and showing up as soon as he realizes his friend is having time in the pool.
Cats typically don’t love water, but this one loves Oatmeal, so crashing a pool day was absolutely worth it. They could definitely star in their own movie together!
