Max is back. This vintage favorite is once again the most popular dog name<\/a> for good boys in the U.S., according to the American Kennel Club.<\/p>\n Max was unseated last year by Milo, a cute pet name for a dog that is “dear” or “beloved.” But Milo has since dropped to 12th place, based on 2025 registrations at the AKC<\/a>. The name Max is now truly “the greatest,” no surprise considering the moniker originated with a Roman emperor.<\/p>\n There was one surprise this year, though: the name Hank jumped all the way up to second place from No. 35. This timeless Southern name<\/a> has obvious appeal for country music lovers.<\/p>\n The top four dog names for good girls didn’t change in 2025, although Ruby leapt into fifth place, up from No. 16.<\/p>\n \u201cChoosing a pet\u2019s name is such a fun and important part of the process when acquiring a dog<\/a>,\u201d says AKC President and CEO Gina M.
