And, if that&#8217;s the case, you likely have your eye on a sphynx cat, the most common hairless cat breed, according to Kirsten Kranz, the director and founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purebredcatrescue.org\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"3\" rel=\"nofollow\">Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_3-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;It&#8217;s a wonderful breed in its own way. I love them &#8230; but it&#8217;s a high-maintenance [cat],&#8221; says Kranz, who owns three sphynx cats.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_5-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> But as tempting as these furless felines may be, they do have some particular care needs and distinct personalities that won&#8217;t make them a fit for everyone. Having little to no hair to shed is helpful, but hairless cats still produce the common allergen found in dander and saliva.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_11-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Kranz says people will sometimes turn sphynxes over to her rescue because of their severe allergic reactions. They&#8217;re similar to minskins but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.munchkincatguide.com\/the-munchkin-cat-sphynx-mix-minskin-and-bambino\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow\">not quite the same<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"heading-toc\" id=\"toc-hairless-cats-personalities\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mntl-sc-block_48-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block dailypaws-sc-block-heading mntl-sc-block-heading\"> <span class=\"mntl-sc-block-heading__text text-title-300\"> Hairless Cats\u2019 Personalities <\/span> <\/h2>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_49-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> As a mom to three sphynxes, Kranz is an expert in caring for &#8220;very, very active&#8221; hairless cats. &#8220;These guys are very much a different sort of personality,&#8221; she says.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_51-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Most cats are considered low-maintenance pets, especially when compared to dogs, but the sphynx personality is more on the dog side of the spectrum: &#8220;very busy,&#8221; Kranz says.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_53-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> The sphynx has been described as a &#8220;snuggly and affectionate&#8221; cat who always wants to be near you. They&#8217;ll follow you from room to room to &#8220;help&#8221; with whatever you&#8217;re doing.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_55-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> They&#8217;re certainly fun, Kranz says, but they aren&#8217;t for everybody.\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"heading-toc\" id=\"toc-caring-for-your-hairless-cat\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mntl-sc-block_57-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block dailypaws-sc-block-heading mntl-sc-block-heading\"> <span class=\"mntl-sc-block-heading__text text-title-300\"> Caring for Your Hairless Cat <\/span> <\/h2>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_58-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Online, owners of hairless cats will see plenty of recommendations to bathe their cats regularly to prevent the buildup of skin oils. However, too many baths can dry your cat&#8217;s skin out, Kranz says.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_60-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> She rarely bathes her sphynxes, opting to wipe them down if they get oily. Nutritious, high-quality food will help keep their skin from getting oily, she says. It&#8217;s a misconception that you have to constantly wash them.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_62-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Kranz says you should be sure your vet is familiar with hairless breeds and their treatment. You&#8217;ll want to seriously consider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailypaws.com\/living-with-pets\/pet-costs\/best-pet-insurance\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\">pet insurance, too, because they can have special medical needs.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_64-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> The best-equipped owners of hairless cats are ones who&#8217;ve owned cats before, have done their research, and have enough money to provide for their cat, she says.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_66-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Many people aren&#8217;t as prepared.
