There’s no shortage of a mother’s love in a video that’s going viral online. One seal mom was absolutely beside herself when she saw her pup start to head for the ocean. She sprinted to save the little guy and people were riveted watching the mom try and get to her baby in time.

You have to keep your eyes on a little one, that’s for sure. The mama seal must’ve been so scared when she saw her cub get a little too close to the water for comfort.

Seal cubs are just as curious as little humans are. But just like toddlers, sometimes that curiosity can get them into trouble.

The cub snuck off to the ocean while the rest of the herd rested on the beach. He probably wanted to go for a swim! Unfortunately, he probably isn’t ready to swim solo just yet. It can be dangerous. Thank goodness Mom was there and caught him before it was too late.

Little guy had just entered the water when Mom pulled up behind him right-quick. She came out of nowhere! You know her supermom speed kicked in when she saw her baby hit the shoreline. Whew! She got him. That was a close one for sure.

Everyone in the comments section was so relieved. And some people joked that the seagull watching the whole thing go down was the cub’s “babysitter.”

“Seagull like ‘is somebody watching this baby or what?’” joked one person.

“Seagull’s like ‘I tried to stop him,’” chimed in another commenter.

“Mothering is the same across species. Stay chasing after these kids,” quipped another person.

“‘Oooh, you’re going to get in trouble!’ – the seagull probably,” added one commenter.

When Do Seal Pups Leave Their Mother?

Like many species, seals care for their young. But at some point little seas must be confident to leave their mother’s side, right? There are several different breeds of seals out there, but for say, a Monk seal, they will typically stay by their mother’s side while they are nursing. That can be anywhere from the first five to seven weeks of a seal’s life.

After the baby has been weaned it may stay close to where it was born so it can learn to find food. This is typically when baby seals are their most curious — and this video definitely proves that!

Looking for more PetHelpful updates?
