The agreement resulted in seven offspring born to the panda pair between 2006 and 2016.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Lun Lun and Yang Yang&#8217;s first five offspring returned to China after spending several years at the zoo. They were the first pandas to enter the U.S. in 21 years. Two other pandas, <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/giant-panda-debut-live-cam-smithsonian-national-zoo-two-new-pandas-8779791\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Bao Li and Qing Bao;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Bao Li and Qing Bao<\/a>, arrived at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, D.C. in October 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Giant pandas are currently listed as &#8220;vulnerable&#8221; in the <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.iucnredlist.org\/species\/712\/121745669\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:IUCN Red List of Threatened Species;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">IUCN Red List of Threatened Species<\/a>, which estimates that there are 500 to 1,000 mature giant pandas in the wild.
