Most dogs absolutely love learning new tricks and commands, especially when a favorite treat is involved! But for two Bernese Mountain Dogs named Walt and Gus, trying to figure out how to use their new nail scratch pad to get those treats seems to be going completely over their heads.
Watch as their mom introduces them to the scratch pad, even showing them the treats hidden inside the little box in the middle. They keep looking at her, then at the pad, and then at each other, but they just don’t seem to get what she wants them to do—even when she tries to demonstrate it! Their confusion is making everybody laugh out loud.
Walt and Gus’s mom joked in the caption, “God forbid we want to file their nails and give them a treat…” You can almost see her rolling her eyes as she says it!
We checked for an update to see if they’d figured it out, but there’s no word on whether they’ve finally understood how to use the scratch pad to reach the treats. Maybe they all just gave up on it!

Funny Reactions to Gus and Walt’s Confusion Over the Scratch Pad
Viewers left hundreds of comments about the Bernese Mountain dogs’ adorable confusion. @Ethan asked the obvious question, “How are they gonna open it by scratching down?” The dogs’ mom admitted, “Honestly, I don’t understand the design of this thing at all LOL!” @labmomof2crazyboys tried to help, “I have this and my lab loves it! I put them on the other side of it though so they scratch and the scratching pulls the slider back to reveal the treat. Although sometimes they want to do it from the side so I manually open it.”
@Cancer Moon joked, “Girl, they are having sensory overload from just looking at it LOL!” @Hudson pointed out, “The lights are on but no one’s home…” @smjags added, “Gus looking like he has no idea where he is or who he is!”, and Mom replied, “Not his finest video LOL!”
