Many pet stores and brands offer programs that reward your purchases with discounts and freebies. If you’re going to shop anyway, you might as well get free stuff for your dog! Here are some great ways to get free or discounted items for your pup’s birthday.
1. PetSmart “Treats Rewards” Birthday Surprises
Treats Rewards is PetSmart’s free rewards program, which earns you points every time you shop. Perks include a free birthday or “gotcha day” gift (for the day your pet joined the family), members-only in-store pricing, special deals and discounts and much more.
Plus, if you earn your way to the VIPP tier, you get access to even more perks, including a free holiday gift!
2. Petco “Vital Care” Perks
Petco recently merged its Pals loyalty program with Vital Care, its veterinary care rewards program. While a free birthday gift isn’t specifically listed among Vital Care’s perks, it was part of the Pals program, and some shoppers report that the birthday freebie is still available with Vital Care.
You’ll also get points on every purchase, every eighth grooming session free and more!
3. Chewy Birthday Cards and Discounts
Chewy, the online pet retailer, is known for its great customer service—they even send out handwritten birthday cards on pets’ birthdays if you fill out a profile!
And, if you’re a Chewy+ member, you may receive a special discount code in your card to buy a gift for your furry friend. Membership also provides other exclusive offers and free shipping on all orders.
Many Chewy shoppers have even reported receiving flowers and paintings of their pets after they’ve passed away and had to cancel orders, which is pretty amazing.
4. Purina App Rewards
Purina dog food has a free rewards app called myPurina. Just scan your Purina receipts and you’ll receive 10 points for every $1 you spend on popular Purina brands, plus some cool freebies too. You can then redeem your points for various rewards.
The app also offers exclusive deals and sweepstakes, including prizes of free food or treats for a whole year! It’s unclear whether there’s a specific birthday reward available, but it wouldn’t surprise us at all.
5. Pet Supplies Plus Birthday Gifts and Rewards
Sign up for Pet Supplies Plus’s Rewards Members program to receive a special birthday gift on your dog’s birthday or gotcha day—plus other nice perks, like $5 back for every 1,000 points earned and personalized money-saving offers.

Dinovite makes nutritional supplements for dogs and cats. If you join their free Dinovite Rewards program, you get access to points, discounts, free shipping and more.
Every 100 points earned equals $5 for you, and you get 100 points just for signing up, plus another 100 points on your pet’s birthday!
7. iHeartDogs Birthday Gift and Discount

10. All the Best Pet Care “Healthy Rewards” (Greater Seattle)
If you live in the Greater Seattle area, check out All the Best Pet Care’s Healthy Rewards program. Aside from accruing points on purchases, members will receive a cute tote bag filled with goodies on their pets’ birthdays, plus a 20% discount!
If you don’t live in the area, you’re unfortunately ineligible for the rewards, but you can still shop from All the Best online.

Want to go out to eat on your dog’s special day? Plenty of places are happy to give your pup little food freebies, and some even have inexpensive doggy menus too.
11. Free “Pup Cup” Places
By now, you’ve probably heard of the free pup cups or “puppuccinos” you can get at many coffee shops and restaurants—most notably, Starbucks. These can be a great way to celebrate your dog’s birthday!
While they’re often just a small dollop of whipped cream or soft serve, some places will even top them off with a dog biscuit too, including Dairy Queen, Sonic and Dutch Bros—perfect for an extra special birthday outing.

Fairmont policies vary by location, and some pets may be subject to size restrictions or fees, but once that’s out of the way, your dog will receive complimentary amenities like beds, bowls, treats and other gifts on arrival, plus special pet menus and even curated guides for exploring the area with your pup.
18. Four Seasons
Like Fairmont, dog policies (and sometimes, fees) vary at Four Seasons locations, but if you’re looking for pampering, you and your dog can often expect to find pet menus, complimentary treats and welcome gifts, dog beds and more at these fine hotels.
19. Kimpton Hotels
Perhaps the most dog-friendly hotel, Kimpton charges absolutely no fees for bringing your pets along with you, and there are no size restrictions either. You’ll also be treated to water bowls, beds, mats and more—even some pet-friendly wine receptions.

20. Dogs of Instagram Samples

21. VCA Animal Hospitals Free Exam
Health is an important gift too! New pet patients at VCA Animal Hospitals (up to two per household) get a free first exam by a vet.
22. ASPCA Free Pet Safety Pack
Finally, though it may not be the most exciting freebie, you can give the gift of safety to your dog year-round with a free pet safety pack from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Included are window and door stickers that alert rescue personnel to your pets’ presence in the home, as well as a fridge magnet with the Poison Control Center’s contact information.
