PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — If you step outside, it’s definitely not the warm weather we were experiencing a few short months ago.
Experts say the same cold you feel outside, your pet feels too.
Peoria faces cold snap, slight warming trend on the horizon
Kitty Yanko is the director of the Peoria Humane Society. She said to keep your pet safe from the cold, limit their time outdoors.
“We recommend that you just keep an eye on the conditions outside. Definitely, when it’s extreme like this, don’t leave your pets outside. If you take them out, bring them right back in. They can’t withstand the cold any more than we can,” Yanko said.
If they’re a dog or cat, also check their paws for any water or salt and make sure to clean them gently.
If you have any concerns about your pet or need any advice about how to protect your furry family from the cold, Yanko says you can call the Peoria Humane Society at 309-682-9015.
