Tiny Sun Conure Parrot Sees Snow for the First Time and It’s an Immediate ‘No’

Living in the suburbs of Atlanta, snow isn’t something we deal with every year — and when it does snow, it usually only hangs around for a day or two before it begins to melt. It’s nice to enjoy it before the cold really starts to get to you, and I also suspect this is why my dog thinks it’s so much fun; if she had to be out in it on a regular basis, she’d probably be begging to return to her spot in front of the fireplace

So I can totally understand why Phoenix the Sun Conure parrot isn’t the biggest fan of snow, but that doesn’t make his reaction to seeing snow for the very first time any less hilarious.

On Tuesday, December 2, @phoenix.the.sun shared what happened when Phoenix’s human opened the door so he could see snow for the first time.

He only stood in the doorway for a moment before he decided to turn around and head back inside, where it’s warm. He didn’t want to walk in it, smell it, taste it, nothing — he felt that cold air, and that was all he needed to know about that strange substance on the ground.

While some birds might have been more curious, Phoenix had clearly seen enough!

Most Sun Conures Aren’t Big Fans of Cold Weather

It actually makes a lot of sense that Phoenix only needed to experience snow for a second to realize he’s not a big fan. Sun Conures are tropical birds, so cold weather isn’t really their thing, let alone snow.

As PetMD points out, these birds do best living in a home with a temperature set between 65-80 degrees Fahrenheit, and they shouldn’t be exposed to extreme temperatures on either end of the spectrum.

However, they do need UV exposure so they can continue to produce Vitamin D. If it’s winter and your Conure feels similarly to Phoenix about the cold, you can still accomplish this indoors with a UV light that is specifically made for birds.

Phoenix is a summer bird, and that’s totally okay. He can stay nice and toasty inside until the sun comes back out!
