I’ve always had a very special place in my heart for senior dogs. Don’t get me wrong — puppies are absolutely adorable and I love canines of all ages. It’s just that senior pooches have such a gentle spirit, warm heart, and attitude of gratitude, I find them to be completely irresistible.
Sprout the 20-year-old Dachshund proves that seniors can also be very resilient. The precious pooch became a resident at Vintage Pet Rescue over the summer and surprised everyone by overcoming a traumatic loss.
Sprout’s story was given in the TikTok from @vintagepetrescue. The senior Doxie was taken in by the rescue after his parent passed away. Sprout was deeply saddened and confused by the loss, and battled some age-related health issues as well. Staff members assumed the senior dog was close to the end.
“Over the summer, a 20-year-old dachshund waddled into our rescue with crickety old bones and a broken heart,” the caption shared of Sprout. “We believed him to be hospice-bound and just hoped we could offer him a few days of peace and safety before he was ready to say goodbye.”
The video showed a montage that included Sprout’s arrival at the rescue to how he’s doing today. The striking difference illustrated how Sprout bounced back with strength and determination. He now shows off his little strut at a quicker rate, has made lots of furry friends, and enjoys plenty of love and affection from Vintage Pet Rescue staff and volunteers.
“Today, over four months later, Sprout is still with us, waddling faster than ever!” the caption reported.
Sprout Is Flourishing at Vintage Pet Rescue
The senior canine cutie is now a fan favorite on social media, where followers want to keep up with his daily activities. Sprout often sports very chic sweaters and always makes time for sunbathing. He loves his new home, and is a wonderful example of the rescue’s overall mission.
“The Sprouts of the world are exactly why we started Vintage Pet Rescue,” the caption explained. “As a senior dog rescue, we’re often the last chance for elderly dogs like Sprout who need a soft place to land.”
