Having a beloved pet go missing is one of the worst things that could ever happen. All it takes is one accidental escape to turn your world upside down—especially this time of year. Frigid temperatures aren’t only uncomfortable for a wandering pet, but they can be fatal.
This recently happened to a Boxer named Rocco when he got away from the dog sitter, and as you can imagine, his family was devastated. As Chicago residents, they knew if they didn’t find him soon, sweet Rocco wouldn’t survive the cold weather. Luckily, this is one happy ending we all need.

I’ve been through a scenario like this, and it truly is terrifying to imagine your BFF (best fur friend) lost, confused, and scared. With no guarantee you’ll find them and time slipping away, all you can do is recruit everyone you know to search the streets and beg the universe to bring them home.
For Rocco’s family, that prayer was answered.
As explained by @vito.the.boxer, the precious pup survived “9 inches of snow, nights below freezing, and four days completely on his own.” But thanks to a miracle, as his family deemed it, he made it home to his favorite boy in the whole world—his human brother.
“And now he’s back where he belongs—in the arms of the little boy who loves him more than anything,” the caption continued. “This moment means more than we can ever put into words.”
We couldn’t agree more! Along with Boxer brother Vito, Rocco is so loved, and his family is beyond grateful that the community rallied to save him in the nick of time.

Rocco Gives Vito Renewed Purpose
Now that we can all breathe easy knowing Rocco made it home, I’m sure his older, more soulful big brother, Vito, is feeling the relief, too. Having only joined the family in October 2024, the young Boxer made Vito feel young again.
I always say, get your dog a dog, and you’ll truly know what a home full of love and laughter feels like. These two prove it.
With Rocco reunited with all his favorites, the holidays will be that much better. That said, this kind of thing can happen to anyone at any time, so hug your pets a little tighter and thank the universe for giving you another day together.
