A beloved pet in Marshall, Texas

MARSHALL, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — Every pet is special, but some are special in more obvious ways.

Spring is a cat that wears her uniqueness, specifically as an extra claw on her paw.

She is polydactyl. Being polydactyl is a generally harmless genetic trait that occurs in humans and other animals, especially cats.

Because of the extra width of the paw, they are often referred to as ‘mitten cats.’ In addition to being a favorite of Ernest Hemingway, polydactyl cats are frequently considered good luck.

The extra width also helps them balance and climb better than most cats, aiding in hunting and capturing prey.

While polydactyly is an obvious way Spring is special, it is not the only one.

She is extremely affectionate, often sticking a paw outside of her kennel to get attention as people walk by.

While shy in new environments, she quickly opens up and becomes loving and attentive.
