MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A holiday pet adoption event in Mobile helped connect families with dogs just in time for Christmas.

The event, called “Home for the Holidays,” brought adoptable dogs out into the community, making it easier for potential owners to meet them in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
According to Mobile Animal Services Director Robert Bryant, the event on Sunday led to several successful adoptions.
“We’ve had five adoptions, and those that aren’t adopting or are running around trying to get others to adopt,” said Bryant.
Bryant says the holiday season often brings an increase in interest.
“We typically see a little bit of an uptick in adoptions during the Christmas season. But like the rest of the year, like the rest of the year, sometimes it is high, sometimes low,” Bryant said.
Jim Foley with Fairhope Brewing Company says they are proud to host events like this.
“The folks at ROAR came to us about a month ago and asked about doing a ‘Home for the Holidays’ pet adoption event, and we just couldn’t say no,” said Foley.
For some attendees, a casual stop turned into something much more meaningful.
“I came here for my friend’s birthday, and I just came to look, and he looked at me. That’s what happened,” said Kayla Foster, who adopted a dog at the event.
Foster left the event with a two-year-old dog, she says felt like the right fit.

“I’m happy, I like him, he makes me happy, he’s cool,” said Foster.
