Golden Retriever Bringing Sick Brother a ‘Lambie’ for Comfort Will Make You Emotional

I’m a huge advocate of getting your dog a dog for a plethora of reasons—some you may not realize until it counts. Not only do two dogs keep each other company with cuddles, playtime, or just emotional support, but they also rely on each other to get through the hard times.

For Golden RetrieverWillow, that means offering her pup brother Winston her favorite Lambie stuffie when he’s not feeling well. And because of his ongoing health issues, that small gesture means something very big.

It’s videos like this one, shared by Willow and Winston’s mom, that put that ache in my chest. The act of pure love, compassion, and kindness (all without words) is everything good in the world. Winston may not be feeling his best, but Willow will be by his side until he does.

When Mom writes, “My heart genuinely can’t take it,” I feel so much of the same. The gentle way Willow retrieves the stuffie and puts it next to her brother shows she understands he’s under the weather and wants to help. It may not cure his physical ailments, but I’m sure his heart grew three sizes (mine did)!

Goldens are literally the best dogs,” one person praised in the comments. “Such a wonderful and beautiful sister,” another wrote. Another deemed these two the “sweetest angels” who are “pure love,” and this video is proof.

Winston’s Health Journey

I’ve written about these sweet siblings before, and each time they somehow top how precious they were previously. Willow—who refused to leave Winston’s side after surgery, and who wouldn’t take her eyes off Mom during a golf cart ride—is an angel with a heart of gold. The affectionate, caring Golden seems to feel deeply and shows it in everything she does… especially now.

That Lambie is more than symbolic as Winston is currently going through chemotherapy, which can exhaust anyone going through it as the body tries to heal.

The October diagnosis of Stage 3 lymphoma was a big shock, but the family is navigating his treatment the best they can. For only 4 years old, this sweet boy has been through a lot and still has a tough road ahead.

Luckily, he has the *best* nurse in his sister Willow and plenty of snuggles with her Lambie. Here’s to better days ahead, buddy!
