It’s hard to go anywhere this time of year without seeing reminders of the wintery season. But while you’re checking out fun creations people have crafted from snow, keep this in mind: There are fluffy, white dogs out there that look like snowmen, too. It’s true! If you’d love to own an adorable pup with a whimsical, snowman-like appearance, but you’re not sure which ones would make good pets, you’re in luck. We rounded up five dog breeds that look like snowmen, according to veterinarians. Best of all, this list includes both big white dog breeds and small white dog breeds, so there’s a snowman look-alike for every type of dog lover.
“Some cute dogs are referred to as ‘snowmen’ due to their color, coat texture, and general shape, particularly in winter months when their fur is at its fullest and roundest,” says Aimee Warner, DVM, resident veterinarian at Waggel. “Some people don’t realize that there are actual breed traits that hold this look together,” she says.
Of course, there’s so much more to a dog than the way they look. But if you have a special love for Frozen’s Frosty the Snowman or Olaf and dream of having your own snow-inspired dog at home, certain winter dog breeds fit the bill. Consider bringing home one of these snowmen look-alike dog breeds—they’re as charming as they are fluffy.

This little puffball is all snowman, from their round, fluffy heads to their tails. That snowman-like look does take some grooming, though. “To keep them looking puffy and snowman white, they’ll need everyday brushing and clipping and washing at least monthly,” says Chyrle Bonk, DVM, a veterinarian at Embrace Pet Insurance.
But the Bichon Frise is more than just adorable looks. “Small and affectionate, Bichon Frise can work great with nearly every family in any living situation,” Bonk says. “They tend to be very outgoing, even to strangers, and are fairly quiet.” This breed doesn’t shed much, making them a good choice for families with allergies.

The Great Pyrenees dog is a large, fluffy breed with a coat that comes in many colors, including snow white. “If you’re looking for a larger snowman-like dog or companion, the Great Pyrenees is an extremely loyal and affectionate dog with their family,” Bonk says.
While the Great Pyrenees has thick, white fur, Bonk notes they don’t usually require a lot of grooming. (Just brush your fluffy pet several times a week.) “It should be more frequent during the spring and fall, when heavy shedding can make it look like snow is falling on the ground,” Bonk adds. Just remember that the Great Pyrenees has a guard dog background, so your not-so-little snowman dog may be wary of strangers.

Another snowman-look dog? The Pomeranian is all fur with a bouncy personality to match. The Pomeranian’s coat comes in a range of shades, including a snowy all-white hue. That coat defies gravity, giving this pooch a puffy, snowy look.
Pomeranians have big, playful personalities, allowing you and your little one to have plenty of fun together. They’re also adaptable and petite, so you can take your snowman on the road with you. Another perk of this breed: They’re not big droolers.

Siberian Husky

When it comes to dogs that look like snowmen, this is one. Like many breeds, the Siberian Husky has several different coat colors. But the snowman-like all white shade is definitely one. “Because of their thick double coat and pale coloring, which becomes extra-fluffy against cold, Siberian Huskies are generally referred to as snowmen,” Warner says.
This breed has a dense undercoat that traps heat, while the outer coat repels moisture, maintaining a plush, rounded look. As a result, your Siberian Husky is likely to want to play in the snow right alongside you. “Upright ears and bright eyes add to the overall expressive—even cartoon-like—appearance, standing out against the backdrop of snow,” Warner says.

Maltese
Love the idea of a mini snowman? Meet the Maltese. “Their long, silky white coat makes a soft, cloud-like shape, especially when it is kept long,” Warner says. “When well-groomed, this coat can often give the impression of a smooth, rounded outline, not dissimilar from a small snow figure.”
While this pretty dog breed looks delicate, Warner points out that this dog is ready to play. “Maltese dogs are energetic and assured, and their bright, pure white color makes the snowman comparison quite popular and easy to make,” she says. Just be aware that your little snowman may prefer to spend time inside when it’s chilly out.
