Minutes-Old Baby Alpaca Reminds Her New Fans of an Iconic Movie Alien

Caring for a farm full of animals is hard work, but it’s also unbelievably rewarding. Whether it’s helping rescue animals feel safe or watching a baby grow up to have babies of their own, there are special moments in animal care that no one will ever forget.

One of those moments occurred on January 15, when @redkoalas welcomed a newborn baby alpaca to their farm. The baby girl, named Bon Bon, was immediately carried inside to warm up and dry off before reuniting with Mom in the pasture, and she managed to steal everyone’s hearts in the process.

Welcome to the world, little one! BonBon was only ten minutes old when this video was taken, and she was already feeling warm, dry, and strong. Bonding with her human family while getting used to her surroundings is just the cherry on top!

“I see so much love in those beautiful little eyes,” wrote commenter @lthomp71. This little alpaca already feels so safe with her human family! Being trusted with such a new life is the most incredible gift, but it’s also a delicate job.

Even though BonBon was reunited with her mama outside just an hour later, this early socialization time with humans is critical for her future. The next time they need to catch the sweet baby animal for a vet check-up or grooming session, she’ll know exactly who they are and that she has nothing to fear. It really is a win-win!

Thousands of viewers agreed with @royville_ballers, who commented, “She needs to phone home.” Now that someone mentioned it, I can’t deny the way she resembles E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial! With her rich brown color, her long neck, and those huge eyes, she does look more alien than animal.

Baby Alpaca’s First Days

BonBon is the second baby alpaca born at @redkoalas‘ farm this year, which means she had a playmate and BFF only a few days older waiting for her in the pasture. It may take a day or two before baby animals are ready to play, but tending to them immediately after birth is the best way to set baby alpacas up for success.

This baby alpaca’s first day of life is full of warmth and snuggles, which is extra important on chilly winter days. Luckily, The Red Koalas are always prepared with jackets, blow dryers, and lots of love to give. What a perfect start for a perfect baby!
