11-Year-Old Cat Surrendered By Only Family He Ever Knew Will Have You in Tears

Making the decision to become a pet parent isn’t one that should be taken lightly. It’s a serious choice because your fur baby will be completely dependent on you, especially if you bring them home when they are very young. Your pet kids become your family members, which is what makes the story of one shelter cat so tragic.

The @cat_socializer TikTok shared the story of an 11-year-old cat named Murray who now resides at the SPCA Westchester in Briarcliff Manor, NY. Unfortunately, he was given up by his human family. Prepare yourself because this video will have you crying your eyes out.

This is beyond sad! The on-screen text tells us, “This is what heartbreak looks like in a surrendered senior cat.” And the video goes on to explain, “Murray lived in a home for 11 years. He was surrendered by the only family he’s known when they moved where pets weren’t allowed.” How awful for Murray!

As seen in the clip, Murray appears very down. No doubt he’s shaken up and missing his family. The video made the point, “Cats don’t understand surrender. They only feel loss.” And Murray’s loss is a huge one.

In the video post copy, @cat_socializer goes into more detail about surrendered cats, adding, “Cats who spend their whole lives in homes don’t ‘adjust’ to shelters. They shut down. They stop asking. They curl inward and wait quietly, hoping this is temporary.”

Viewers really feel bad for Murray and his situation. Most don’t understand how anyone could surrender this sweet cat, but this isn’t the end of his story. The video ended with the call to action, “Be Murray’s next chapter.”

How To Help Murray Find a Home

If you’re interested in adopting Murray into your family, learn more about the process on the SPCA Westchester website. You can visit Murray in person at their Briarcliff Manor, NY location. That way, you can meet Murray and see if you have a connection. If so, you can bring this cat home.

And Murray needs a good home. We really hope he finds his forever family soon!
