Golden Retriever’s Epic Mud Bath Is Every Dog’s Dream Spa Day

Even though dogs can be loving, loyal, and absolutely adorable, they can also be chaotic and messy. Every pet parent will learn this firsthand in unforgettable ways, like watching their dog’s zoomies break a window in a brand-new house, but even dog walkers like Brianne will witness just how wild a happy dog can be.

While hiking with a pack of dogs through the forest, an adventurous Golden Retriever decided that he deserved a spa day. So, naturally, he gave himself the mud bath of every dog’s dreams! One of his friends decided to join in on the fun, and even Brianne couldn’t resist having a laugh—even though she’s the one who will be cleaning everyone later!

This dog found his happy place! For a moment, he looked like he could fall asleep right there in the mud, but he couldn’t help keeping an eye on all of his friends. If only everyone would stay still, then this Golden and his Black Labrador friend could truly enjoy his mud bath!

I wasn’t the only viewer who laughed out loud when the Golden blew bubbles in the muddy puddle. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think he was turning into an amphibian!

“They are Mud Retrievers,” commenter @depot2005 explained, “a very rare dog breed.” That explains why these pups are so at home in the puddle! Unfortunately, they’ll have to come out eventually, which means it will be time to get clean.

“This is why I keep towels in my car and have a waterproof setup in the back,” @moonoperator3suggested. “They’re here for a good time, not a long time!”

Why Do Dogs Like Mud?

To people, a mud puddle seems like one of the last places to stop and bathe. Mud is full of dirt and rocks that would leave humans headed for the showers, but for some reason, dogs can’t seem to stay away from a mud bath.

As veterinarian Dr. Chris Brown explains, splashing in a puddle, whether muddy or not, can be both cooling and fun for dogs. However, they are actually attracted to the same stinky scents that leave the rest of us running for the hills. To a dog, smelling like nature is a good thing!

Brianne is very generous to let her pack have fun however they see fit while they’re out on their hikes, even if it means doing extra chores later. A dog’s joy is always worth it!
