(NewsNation) — The 22nd annual Puppy Bowl will kick off Sunday ahead of Super Bowl LX, and viewers at home can adopt the pups they see on their screen.
This year, the event is showcasing 150 dogs from 72 shelters across the country.
“Our goal is truly to just showcase as many different varieties, breed mixes, sizes, and even ages of puppies as possible because we also have senior dogs competing during the halftime show and special needs dogs competing throughout the show as well,” said Dan Schachner, the “Puppy Bowl” referee, on NewsNation’s “Katie Pavlich Tonight.”
Which cities have yet to host a Super Bowl despite having an NFL team?
It can be difficult for older dogs to find their homes for several reasons, so the Puppy Bowl is also highlighting senior dogs.
“Three to four times longer in the shelter is the time that they spend compared to a puppy,” Schachner said. “Often, sometimes people think they want a puppy, but a senior dog, they’re much more chill, they’re less toy motivated, they’re already house broken. They might be the right fit, especially for a busy household, so we want to hopefully open people’s minds up to that.”
