‘Skiing’ Horse Takes the Easy Way Down an Icy Hill in Oklahoma

Animals learn to adapt to their surroundings, and some of the ways they do it are pretty cool to see. Take, for instance, this video that Trenna Wright shared, of a horse named Bucky tackling a slippery surface by “skiing” down an icy hill in Honobia, Oklahoma, as his hooves struggled to find traction.

Watch as Bucky realizes that there’s ice on top of the snow, and instead of fighting against it, he just goes with it, appearing to ski down the hill. The rider on his back remains calm and knows that Bucky knows what he’s doing, and they both just go with the flow!

Trenna’s video is so cool! Other viewers agreed, too. The video’s been viewed more than a million times and has more than 1,200 comments. It was an instant social media hit, even being picked up and shared by ABC News!

Surprised Reactions to Bucky Skiing Down the Icy Hill

Viewers had mixed reactions to Trenna’s video: some were impressed that the horse knew what to do, while others were concerned about the horse’s safety.

Commenter @deannajustine cracked a joke that had people laughing, “Is your horse gaited?? Nahh, but he skated!! LOL!”

“Okay, but he’s proving he’s experienced, knows his body balance, and is aware a child is on him… Impressive,” said @Morgan, and many others agreed. @Maxine Elizabeth added, “While I am impressed, I’m also terrified.”

@Carla63B started quite a conversation when she said, “Personally, when you have a horse that good, you do your best to make sure nothing happens to them. Like a broken bone from slipping on the ice. But hey, that’s just me. I don’t have $12K -/+ to buy another one.”

Commenter @Kat wasn’t having it, “I make sure nothing happens to mine by giving them the skill to work in unwieldy situations, rather than bubble wrapping them, but you do you.” Overall, though, people loved watching Bucky do his thing.
