Pug Pays Homage to Olympic Athletes and ‘Makes America Proud’ in Heartwarming Clip

Dogs have a unique talent for being the absolute cutest thing you’ve ever seen at any given moment. Whether it’s an adorable stretch in the sunlight, a funny face or blank stare, or one of those silly videos that perfectly captures their personality, every day offers plenty of opportunities to find yourself gushing over something cute your dog just did.

With the Winter Olympics underway, one internet-famous pug took to TikTok to show support for the athletes in what has since become a hilarious viral clip. And sure, dogs are naturally cute, but this video proves a little creative direction from mom and dad goes a long way and also makes us wonder why dogs in the Olympics aren’t already a thing.

The video, which has already garnered thousands of comments from supportive fans, shows the cutie pie known as @dougthepug sporting a red American flag sweater and goggles as he “drops in” for his debut Olympic ski jump. Above the clip, the words “Every Olympics team needs a pug” appear alongside a gold medal emoji as Doug blasts off and completes a legendary jump.

“It’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s a pug!” the caption reads, perfectly capturing the essence of the video as Doug is depicted soaring through the air, looking down at everything below, spotting his landing and ultimately finding himself on the first-place podium with a gold medal around his neck.

“Doug the pug in the Olympics is always worth watching,” one fan wrote in response to the epic video. “Doug is making America proud,” another exclaimed, while others rated the performance a “10++++” and called Doug their “new favorite contender for sure!”

Are Pugs Actually Athletic?

Best known for their squishy faces, short stature and linebacker-esque solid build, pugs have an irresistibly lovable personality. And despite not being known for their agility or athleticism, they can be surprisingly active for short bursts of play. Their compact, muscular build makes them great at quick sprints, playful roughhousing and basic tricks—but admittedly, they aren’t getting on a ski slope anytime soon.

That said, pugs are prone to joint and mobility issues, so while regular play is great for their health, going too hard can lead to irreversible damage. And because these little good boys and girls are already susceptible to hip dysplasia, patellar luxation and arthritis, you’ll want to do everything you can to keep their lives comfortable and cozy, with safe doses of playful activity sprinkled throughout.

Thankfully, videos featuring cuties like Doug the Pug are exactly what we need to keep a smile on our faces. And while the little guy won’t be hitting the slopes this Olympic season, every country should seriously consider adding his constituents to their teams for moral support.
