Dogs look out for their own!
Alberta, Canada, residents Jason and Kris Zackowski were out for a wintry walk with their two dogs, Bunsen and Beaker, and filmed their stroll through a wooded area near their farm. Little did they know that they were about to capture an act of canine heroics on camera
The clip begins with Bunsen, a Bernese mountain dog, rooting around in a few inches of snow as Jason beckons him back onto the path. Instead of heeding his owner’s calls, Bunsen takes off ahead of him. His owner continues to record as he follows the dog, with Beaker close at his tail.

Bunsen is then seen sniffing around an icy creek. When the usual obedient Bunsen continues to ignore Jason and Kris’s calls to come back, the pet parents realize they need to investigate whatever has the dog fixated.
After approaching Bunsen by the creek, his owners realize their pet is protecting another dog, who appears to be freezing and unable to move from the creek. Jason shares that the dog is likely a stray or has been living in the woods for some time, then tells the dog not to be afraid as he gets closer.

Jason then shares what appears to be kibble with the dog, who hurriedly eats every bite in the clip. Jason told AP that the dog couldn’t stand and appeared very unwell overall, so he and Kris contacted their son, Adam, and asked him to meet them with rescue supplies so they could bring the dog to safety.
The couple added that Adam also brought snacks, which helped them build trust with the dog so she’d agree to go with them out of the woods. In footage from the rescue, the dog from the creek is shown safe, blanketed, and riding in a sled pulled by Adam.
