Rare Ancient Thai Cat With Stunning Markings Has People in Complete Awe

As someone who loves to travel, one of my favorite parts about visiting a new place are the animals I might meet there. Whether they’re local to the country or simply a cute, furry friend crossing my path, I’m not about to complain — and it looks like this TikToker feels the same way!

This week, @ukulore on TikTok shared a video of her encounter with a stray cat she met in Thailand, and this kitty is so beautiful, people are in complete awe of them.

When the OP described the cat as an “anime character” in her caption, she really wasn’t kidding — this cat is seriously gorgeous, to the point that they look almost unreal. Between the mask-like markings on their face and the stripe going down their back, this kitty is otherworldly.

Commenters can’t get over how pretty their coat is, either. One wrote, “Suddenly, the rest of my budget would be going to bring the cat home.”

Though it’s not clear what kind of breed this cat is, more than one commenter recognized it as an ancient Thai cat, which are very rare these days.

“It’s an old cat coat pattern!!! Thought to be extinct, they show up from time to time,” one commenter explained.

Ancient Thai Cat Breeds

There are several ancient breeds of cats often found in Thailand — and in general, the animals are highly respected in Thai history.

According to Thailand Now, an ancient manuscript called the Tamra Maew that is said to have been written by Buddhist monks in the 18th century says that there were once at least 20 distinct cat breeds living in the country, but all of them except for a few have gone extinct.

The breeds that can still be found in Thailand today include:

  • Wichien Maat, a breed related to Siamese cats with crystal blue eyes

  • Suphalak, a rare breed with a red-brown coat and yellow eyes who is thought to bring prosperity to their humans

  • Khao Manee, cats with pure white coats and heterochromia, resulting in two different colored eyes

  • Konja, an all black cat believed to be good luck

If you happen to be traveling in the country, you never know — you may end up getting to see one of these beautiful, rare cat breeds in action yourself.
