Wiggles Pet Resort expands to Middlebury with luxury amenities for dogs

MIDDLEBURY – A $5 million luxury pet resort with dog TVs, blueberry facials and bobbing for apples has expanded to Middlebury.

Wiggles Pet Resort, which has locations in Durham and Mahopac, N.Y., opened at 1082 Southford Road in Middlebury on Nov. 1.

The resort includes doggie day care, dog training, grooming and spa services, premium overnight lodging suites and “pampering packages.” The overnight suites, which start at $59, have glass windows, fleece-style raised beds and flat screen TVs for the pups to enjoy Animal Planet and a channel that plays media suited for dogs.

Co-owner Laura Laaman, who owns Wiggles Pet Resort along with her son, Craig, said the goal of the resort is not to “warehouse dogs,” so they expect owners to also buy an activity package, which can be customizable and starts at $14.95. The facility includes five indoor-outdoor yards for group or private play. Canine parties and healthy gourmet dog treats are also offered.

“It’s all about play,” Laaman said. “We want the dogs so happy so when they come back they’re wiggling.”

Laaman, who has three decades of experience as president of Outstanding Pet Care, a pet care consulting company, told CT Insider Wiggles spent about $5 million building the facility at Southford Road from the ground up. Laaman and her son both live in the area and have seven dogs between their households, so the Southbury location was a long-awaited goal of theirs.

The resort also offers dogs gourmet treats, facials and “pawties,” including bobbing for apples and hay mazes. In April, at the Mahopac location, two labradoodles that fell in love at Wiggles were wed, complete with doggie-tuxes and doggie-bridal gowns, Laaman said.
