James Coburn never really wanted a dog, but his wife, Leah, did. The two started looking to adopt a dog and never even considered adopting a special needs pup, until they met a deaf dog named Poundcake. It was love at first sight!
James shared a video showing Poundcake waking up in his very first home the morning after they adopted him. It’s so sweet to see him realize he’s in a safe and comfy home instead of a shelter; he must have thought it was a dream! James goes on to explain more of their lives together and how they came to adopt his sister, Milkshake. The whole story will make you smile!
Since adopting his two deaf pooches, James has created Love Like Poundcake LLC, a business that supports rescues and other special needs dogs looking for homes. Commenters appreciate that they shared their story and the work that they do.
@D V115 shared, “I love y’all’s story!” @Silvia Bellia added, “Oh my gosh, guys!!! You are everything good, love your love!” @sparky spoke for all of us, “You guys are angels. Thank you for rescuing these amazing animals!”

How to Help Animal Shelters and Rescues in Need
Animal shelters and rescues everywhere are always in need of support, and looking for those willing to help dogs and cats in need find their forever homes. The easiest and cost-free way to support them is to like their social media pages and posts, and to share their videos, fundraiser drives, and spotlights on animals looking for homes. You never know who might see it and find their next furry best friend!
Donations are always welcome, and shelters and rescues often have links to send a monetary donation. Many also include links to ‘wishlists’ on Amazon and other sites where you can purchase items needed (toys, treats, gear, etc.) and have them shipped directly to them.
If you can’t donate financially, you can donate your time. Shelters and rescues are always in need of another set of hands to give the dogs the attention they crave, help feed, clean kennels, get the animals out for some exercise and fun, and a number of other things. It’s a rewarding experience, and a great way to give back to your community.
And don’t forget that fostering saves lives. If you have room in your heart and home —even if it’s only temporarily —please consider fostering. It’s a great way to get some fur baby cuddles in and help an animal get ready to move into their own forever home!
