Dinner-table conversations can be intense, and this video from Instagram user @greatdane_mia shows that they’re not easy for a dog and a cat either. The video features a Great Dane named Mia and a cat who wants to have a serious discussion.

Mia stands at the dining table with her chin resting flat on the wood, just standing there like she has had a long day. But the on-screen text reads, “We need to talk,” and soon you see the cat showing up.

In the video, the cat strolls in, hops onto the chair across from the dog, and prepares for some serious dinner table conversation. Then the meowing starts, almost like she is complaining. Mia does not move or bark. Instead, she just watches the cat and takes it all in as if this is a regular occurrence between her and the cat. Meanwhile, the video’s caption jokes, “The dinner conversation is getting awkward.”

It is hilarious because it really does look like a couple hashing something out over a glass of wine. But of course, there is also a bit of actual pet behavior hiding under the joke. Cats often meow to get attention or to “talk” to their humans, and some may do so with fellow pets in the house as well.

At the same time, dogs, especially even-tempered breeds like Great Danes, usually use body language to communicate. So, a still dog with a gentle face and steady stare is often just watching and reading the room.

Hence, in pet terms, the cat is doing all the talking, and Mia is the calm roommate trying to figure out the problem.

Whatever the cat and the big dog were really saying, the video is nothing out of the ordinary for anyone watching, because it has one family member venting and the other one holding down their side of the table — and all of this is happening during dinner hours.
