There are some cat breeds so impossibly stunning, you have to stop what you’re doing and take it all in. Having pets that outshine us without even trying isn’t fair, but it’s a small price to pay to be in their esteemed company!
One spectacular, rare cat breed has such a unique look all their own, and these kitties don’t even look like real-life felines. Selkirk Rex babes are otherworldly, and you’re about to meet one who’ll make you swoon. If it’s not these cats’ curly, coiled coats or their big saucer-like eyes, it’s the way their beautiful coat coloring looks like a mosaic painting, a patchwork quilt, or even just a gorgeous stuffie!
The ever-mysterious, curly-and-coiled Selkirk Rex cats are always showstoppers in any beauty pageant they enter! These adorable kittens—specifically the main character with the beautiful charcoal-peach face paint—are unlike any other. You can’t tell at their young age what they’ll grow into, and that’s the best part!

If you’ve never heard of this darling Rex breed, here’s the TLDR:
-
They’re affectionate and laid-back.
-
They make excellent family pets for children.
-
They’re often referred to as “the Poodle cat.”
-
Getting attention is their favorite hobby.
Aside from our leading actress with the Monarch Butterfly-speckled Halloween paint on her face, here’s what those tiny kittens will grow up to look like as adults (note all those luxurious curls)!
How Rare Are Selkirk Rex Cats?
According to The Cat Fanciers’ Association, Selkirk Rex cats are considered a specialty breed because of their naturally curly fur that resembles a sheep’s wool. These fancy felines have only been around since the 1980s, and they’re not the easiest to find because reputable breeders are few and far between (and even then, they typically have a waitlist).
The rarity of the Selkirk makes them all the more unique. If you’re lucky enough to snag one of these kittens with their plush fur and gorgeous coloring, congrats—I’m jealous!
