German Shepherd Mix Named Banjo Throws a Fit Over Dad’s Concert

If you compare dogs versus kids, they have a lot in common. Both can be picky about food, friends, and even music. In my house, we have three kids, three cats, and two dogs, and they each have their own specific thoughts, feelings, and opinions about all three categories.

Banjo, a vocal German Shepherd mix with a stance on just about everything, may not have the correct name after all. As it turns out, Banjo does not, in fact, like Dad’s banjo playing, and he’s not going to be quiet about it!

There are some dogs who enjoy the sound of music, but Banjo isn’t one of them. Or maybe he’s just not a big fan of Dad’s particular talents. Either way, his passionate barking sounds like he’s booing him off stage!

“He HAS to be a musical dog if he’s named Banjo!” one fan surmised. Another suggested,”He wants you to play one he knows so he can sing along,” which might be true… or he just wants all the noise to stop, ASAP.

Even though Banjo is some kind of music snob, he has a lot of other really great things going for him. The 100-pound, nearly 1-year-old mix who Mom describes as “big dog, baby brain” with “talking puppy energy” is cute as can be, complete with 75 layers of precious neck fat!

Honestly, I don’t know how Mom gets anything done when you’ve got a handsome boy looking at you like this:

Why Some Dogs Don’t Like Music

There are plenty of pups in the world who can appreciate Banjo’s dad’s performance, but there are just as many who won’t. Just like us, many pups prefer slower tempos, like soft rock, classical, or reggae, to help them relax or get rid of any pesky anxiety.

Louder beats, higher frequency songs, or harsh-sounding instruments can cause agitation—also like us. Maybe he’d prefer a guitar rendition? Every dog has their own musical preferences, and it’s clear that Banjo’s preference is for Dad to never play that thing again!
