Some dogs have a way of making sure they’re living their best life every single day. Golden Retrievers are especially good at finding joy in simple things, like a huge muddy puddle on a cloudy day. One mom learned firsthand just how much her pup loves to play in the water, and we’re sure it made for a messy ride home.
Bentley and his mom recently went to the dog park after a big rainstorm. Their TikTok video, shared on @thespicygoldenn, shows the Golden Retriever living his absolute best life, with not a single care in the world other than making sure he was having the most fun possible in that moment.
As the video begins, Mom walks over to Ben, who is already soaked in the puddle, and says, “What the actual? Look at this guy!” Then, as she gets closer, the Golden looks at her, and she exclaims, “Ben! What did you do?” It’s clear he doesn’t have a care in the world as he stands up and does a huge muddy shake.

Then, to add insult—or maybe just solidify his fate of yet another bath—he rubs his entire body in the grass, obviously making sure every strand of hair is nicely coated with dark brown mud.
Toward the end of the clip, Mom zooms in and says, “He is so happy with himself right now,” as Ben stares at her as if to say, “Yep! I am!”
Why Do Dogs Love Muddy Puddles?
Bentley, the Golden Retriever, keeps good company with many other dogs who love a good roll in a muddy puddle. A recent Modern Vet article suggests the top reasons pups like to play in water include cooling off, trying to mask their scent, or simply enjoying it. Some may even like the taste—yuck!
Whatever the reason, the internet is full of muddy dog videos, and it’s clear they just love to get dirty.
