Dogs weather storms differently, some with courage and dignity and other’s try to hide from the chaos by crawling into you. Bowser the Mastiff? As soon as the wind starts blowing, he becomes a 200-pound lap dog.
There’s an all too relateable TikTok from @bowserthemastiff showcasing Bowser’s over-the-top reaction to windy weather. The caption reads, “He’s a mama’s boy and a big, big baby 🤣,” both which perfectly summarizes what happens next.
The TikTok shows Bowser literally backing it up onto his mom’s lap while she’s sitting in a chair. All 200 pounds of him. Because the wind outside is apparently too much to handle alone.
Mom’s narration tells the whole story: “I’m getting smushed by a 200-pound dog. A lap dog? Yes, literally backed up right onto my lap.”
Dad notes: “The wind is like, so atrocious for him right now.”
Mom reassures her sweet boy: “I know, you poor thing. I love you, Bowsie.”
Dad considers helping: “I guess as a husband, I should make an adjustment, move him. But he’s making…he’s comfortable.”

The comment section is full of people who recognize this very behavior.
“My 8-month-old 70kg English mastiff takes up the whole chair now 😂” someone wrote about their own giant baby.
“Bowser: can’t have you blowin away Mom!” explaining his protective instincts.
“Bowser is so extra and I’m here for it” celebrating his dramatic response.
Large Dogs Can Experience Noise Anxiety and Storm Phobia Despite Their Size
Here’s what’s actually happening to Bowser: close to 40% of all dogs experience some form of noise anxiety. Wind, storms, thunder—these are not things that dogs naturally understand or even feel safe around. Size really doesn’t matter at all. A 200-pound Mastiff can literally be just as scared as a 10-pound Chihuahua.

For dogs who experience weather-related anxiety, seeking shelter and comfort from their person is completely normal behavior. Your mere presence during a frightening event genuinely matters to your dog.
The best thing you can do? Let your dog go wherever they feel safest. For Bowser, that’s his mom’s lap. Even if it means getting smushed by 200 pounds of nervous Mastiff.
Bowser being scared of wind and turning into the world’s biggest lap dog? That’s a mama’s boy doing exactly what mama’s boys do—finding mommy when things get scary.
