It’s no secret that sometimes our pets can get very jealous of each other, especially when they’re used to being the center of their favorite human’s attention. For a Chihuahua named Dixie, that jealousy runs deep. She’s not a fan of her feline siblings and doesn’t even like it when her mom mentions their names!
To prove it, Dixie’s mom decided to put the theory to the test. Make sure your sound is on for this one. Mom starts saying random words, and Dixie doesn’t react at all…until she hears one of the cats’ names. Then she instantly starts barking, basically telling her mom to zip it!
Dixie has some very strong feelings about those cats! It’s safe to say she’s not a fan of them, or even of her mom saying their names!
Viewers could relate and shared their own stories of their dogs’ jealousy towards pet cats. The same thing happens at my house, too! @Bert and Rex shared, “This is exactly how it is. Hops down and runs them away!” Dixie’s mom replied, “Yep, the way she ran to me at the end to get me to stop cracked me up. She’s like, ‘Stop it, mama!!!'”

Why are Chihuahuas So Jealous?
When it comes to jealous dogs, Chihuahuas are one of the breeds that top the list. I Heart Dogs explains more about canine jealousy, “Dogs are loyal companions, but some have a jealous streak that adds a twist to everyday life. These dogs form strong bonds with their humans and often view any attention given to others as a personal slight.”
The article goes on to specifically address Chihuahuas. “Chihuahuas may be tiny, but their personality is larger than life, especially when it comes to jealousy. These little dogs bond fiercely with their owners and expect to be the focus of all attention. When another pet or person encroaches on their territory, Chihuahuas often respond with barking, growling, or trying to wedge themselves between you and the perceived rival. Their bold attitude makes them jealous over even the smallest things, from a new toy to a stranger entering the room.”
If you have the same problem at home with any dog around cats or other people, I Love My Chi recommends, “Whenever they chill out around the person or pet they’re usually jealous of, give them a treat or some praise. Or better yet, have that person give them a treat.” It’s worth a try if you have a furry, green-eyed monster at home!
