Ragdoll Cat Has Zero Regard for the Rules When It Comes to Mom’s Houseplants

Of course, it’s possible to train cats, but it’s not quite as simple as training some dogs can be. I often get the feeling that my cats believe that we live in their house that they generously allow me to stay in, rather than the other way around—they are the true bosses of the household (and the world, I suspect), and they would rather do anything but follow the rules I set.

That’s often why making something off-limits for your kitty can backfire on you, so I’m not surprised at all to see that being told to keep away from the houseplants has turned this Ragdoll cat into a bit of a rebel.

While it’s quite obvious that @therealpurrincessleia is at least trying to be sneaky about it, she’s still batting around her mom’s plant like she owns the place (and in her mind, she probably does).

My favorite part is probably when she makes fearless eye contact with her mom while also breaking her rules at the same time. Only a cat would be capable of this…

Houseplants Can Be So Fascinating to Cats

If you’ve ever wondered what possesses your cats to mess with your plants so much, it’s a lot deeper than them just being a household item that’s interesting for them to play with.

As Grady Veterinary Hospital points out, along with the fact that plants can be fun (and of course, anything forbidden to them is even more exciting), cats in the wild are known for eating plants as just a small part of their diet, so even your domestic feline may have that drive to chow down on some leaves, since it can help their digestion.

But that makes it all the more important to be careful about what plants you leave in their reach, and not just because a chewed up plant can make for a bad decor piece—there are a lot of plants out there, including azaleas, daffodils, and lilies that are actually toxic for them to ingest, so thoroughly research any new plants before bringing them home.
