Dogs are naturally social animals and form close bonds with people and other canines. My two pups — a senior Dachshund and a Pug mix — have very opposite personalities, yet they are practically inseparable after all these years together. Street dogs and strays also develop friendships as they try to navigate life without a home.
Bob the German Shepherd mix lived his life on the streets of Thailand with his fur baby bestie, Angelina, right by his side. Angelina passed away last year, leaving Bob feeling lost and alone. Thankfully, animal advocate Niall Harbison brought Bob to his rescue sanctuary, Happy Doggo, to help him through his grief.
The Instagram video from @wearehappydoggo shared Bob’s story and described how the precious pooch sank into depression without his BFF.
“He had spent his life on the streets, but his world shattered when he lost his soulmate, Angelina,” the onscreen text explained as Bob lay on the floor, clearly sad and despondent.
Harbison and the Happy Doggo team gave Bob tons of affection and kept him active to help him heal from his tremendous loss. A family learned about Bob from Harbison’s social media accounts and wanted to help him heal.
“He had shut down until a family saw his story and knew they had a place for him,” the story continued, with clips showing the team preparing Bob to head off to his new life.
Bob Found a New Bestie
Now settled into his new home, Bob is thriving and enjoying plenty of playing and fun in the sun.
“Today, Bob is living his best life right here in Thailand,” the caption read. “He’s traded the struggle of the streets for sandy paws on the beach and a home where he finally feels safe enough to let his guard down.”
While no one could ever replace Angelina, Bob was able to open his heart to another canine. His new fur baby sister, a playful Husky, welcomed the former street dog with open paws and now the two are best buddies.
“Whether he’s busy digging in the sand, carrying his favorite toys around, or napping peacefully beside his new Husky sister, he has truly found his peace,” the story concluded, adding, “We think Angelina would be so proud of the dog he’s become.”

Harbison launched Happy Doggo in 2021. In addition to the sterilization and daily feeding of thousands of street dogs, he recently opened a full-service medical clinic in honor of his beloved Golden Retriever, Tina.
