Basset Hound Puppy Named Elvis ‘Protests’ Leaving PetSmart Like the King He’s Named For

Basset Hounds are well-known for their sass. For some reason, they’re just some of the goofiest, smartest pups alive. They can also quickly become some of the most stubborn, too, which is why it’s super important to keep up with their training even when they really don’t want to.

Sometimes, though, they’re going to do what they want to do. There’s just no stopping it, even if it’s really embarrassing for you in the moment. Most of the time, if you tell anyone around the scene that you have a Basset Hound, they’ll understand immediately.

Recently, one Basset Hound pulled a classic move outside of a PetSmart. He loves going in there, since that’s where all of his treats and toys come from. He likes to go and pick a few things out occasionally, and when time is up, he loves to throw fits in the parking lot:

Elvis the Basset Hound is so silly. If you see him pancaking out in the parking lot of your local PetSmart, please give him a kiss from me! On this day, he was protesting leaving the store because, apparently, he did not get all the toys and treats that he wanted. The poor boy!

He did definitely get something, though, so don’t let this theatrical performance fool you. He’s a very spoiled boy with tons of toys and treats at home. His mom is trying to teach him to be humble and grateful, but to be honest, it’s not working. If Elvis Presley is the King, then Elvis the Basset is certainly a prince.

PetSmart itself even commented on the TikTok, saying, “Elvis said, ‘Mom, you are done shopping. I am not.'” They did not mention sending their biggest fan a gift card for a shopping spree, though, so I suspect there will be another tantrum in this boy’s future.

Elvis goes full pancake a lot, which is no surprise to most people who have Basset Hounds. These dogs will just stop wherever they feel like stopping, even if they should not be stopping there!

How To Get Basset Hounds Walking

If you encounter Pancake Mode with your Basset Hound, which you certainly are going to, don’t panic. If they’re not in the middle of a road or a high-traffic area, you can let them have a moment to grumble. After that:

  1. Say their favorite words to motivate them.

  2. Make sure you bring a bag of treats with you and use those.

  3. Have a special command for it, like “Up.”

If they really won’t go and you really need them to move, you can give them a gentle nudge, but be gentle. Never hit or kick them, though; it won’t get them to move, but it might get you bitten!
