There is a long-running joke amongst canine parents that their beloved fur babies will eat anything. Another common joke along these lines is that dogs are always hungry. But is that really true? Are dogs really always hungry? Surely dogs, with their unique personalities, will have all kinds of food and snack preferences that dictate what they will and will not eat.
For instance, some dogs might not care for broccoli at all. Just because a dog is offered food or tries something for the first time doesn’t mean that they will end up liking it. Take Maverick, the Golden Retriever, for instance. In the video below, he tries a little bit of lemon for the first time, and to say that he did not care for the zesty, citrusy fruit would be an understatement!
Within the same instant that the tiniest bit of lemon touched the tip of Maverick’s tongue, he knew that he had “been betrayed.” His human dad acted like a lemon would be a tasty treat. However, it most certainly was not! And Maverick seemed to be just as put off by the lemon’s unappetizing flavor as he was by his human father’s act of snack time betrayal.

When his human father offered Maverick a second chance to try the lemon again, he just stared at him, seemingly thinking, “I trusted you…” But being the golden good boy that he is, Maverick still disposed of this nasty fruit for his human father, taking it in his mouth and tossing the dastardly thing to the floor. Once this lemon was down, Maverick stomped his paws at it, as if he wanted to teach this lemon a lesson for being so nasty, LOL.
This Golden Retriever’s Reaction Was Priceless

Viewers on social media had a lot to say about this one. Some people totally loved the way that Maverick handled the situation with comments like “I loved Maverick sending it under the lounge,” and “I love the sliding of the lemon under the couch! LOL!”
While other viewers on social media thought that Maverick was a total good boy for trying to save his human father from this nasty lemon: “Mav is so sweet as always, trying to save dad from that lemon, LOL!”
Some social media users had a similar takeaway from this video while noting that Maverick truly is a good boy for wanting to save his dad, even though his dad betrayed him earlier: “Aaaaww, that look of betrayal in Maverick‘s eyes… But he’s so sweet, he saved you from it anyway.”
