There’s nothing quite like the bond between siblings, and for two Basset Hound sisters, that connection proved unbreakable. After one pup was adopted, the family decided to pick up her sister, and the floppy-eared duo reunited in a moment so pure and emotional, it’s melting hearts all over the internet.
In the touching video, the pups spot each other for the first time in the hallway since leaving their litter. Their tails wag furiously as they rush together, noses bumping, bodies wiggling, and long ears flopping in perfect sync. It’s the kind of reunion that makes you believe animals really do remember the ones they love.
The adorable TikTok clip was shared on the @thetwinhaul account, and it’s so wonderful that this kind family gave both these two girls a home. You can tell how happy they are to be reunited with each other. Their little wagging tails are just too cute! The sweet caption reads, “A week after we brought Ollie home, we went back and got her sister.”

One person said, “LOL, the amount of slobber you’re about to have all over everything!” Someone else replied, “She recognized her sister right away! How sweet. They both look so much at home.” Another comment read, “OMG! Thank you for taking both of the siblings. You guys are angels.”
One person responded, “People saying littermate syndrome never had dogs. You have dogs who aren’t even related who become dependent on one another and overattached. Be glad she adopted both, and they’re together now instead of sitting in a shelter.”
Because so many people mentioned littermate syndrome in the comments, let’s get into it.
What Exactly Is Littermate Syndrome?
Littermate syndrome happens when two puppies from the same litter develop an unusually strong bond after being raised together in the same home. According to the website Veterinary Partners, “Behaviors include attachment to each other, difficulty bonding with humans and other animals, aggression, separation anxiety, and reduced independence in training. This pattern is believed to occur with any pair of puppies or dogs who are raised together at the same time, whether they are siblings or not.”
To help prevent littermate syndrome, it’s important to give each pup space to grow into their own confident, independent dog. Spending one-on-one time with each puppy every day, going on separate walks, and having different play sessions and training moments help them bond with you, rather than just each other. Give them their own crates or beds, feed them apart, and occasionally let them experience short periods of alone time. Socializing them individually with other people and dogs also helps build confidence. The goal isn’t to keep them apart forever; it’s just to make sure each pup learns how to navigate the world on their own, without always relying on their sibling for comfort or cues.
Littermate syndrome isn’t a guaranteed condition, and with proper one-on-one time and training, two sibling pups can grow up together just fine.
