Cat Playing With Infant’s Ponytail Is Cracking Everybody Up

It’s always such a joy to watch our fur babies and human babies interact, especially when they do something totally unexpected. Dr. Jessica Propes’ 9-month-old daughter was recently playing in her playpen when their cat noticed something very interesting and decided she needed to investigate… in the cutest way possible!

Jessica had put a little ponytail on her daughter’s head, and to the kitty, it looked like a brand-new toy. She jumps up on the edge of the playpen and starts batting at it before hopping right onto the baby’s head for a closer look!

Jessica laughed in the video’s caption and shared, “These two are constantly creating chaos!” We’re glad she shared it because it’s the cutest chaos we’ve seen in a long time!

Commenters’ Funny Reactions to the Cat Playing With the Baby’s Hair

Commenters got a kick out of watching the cat play with the baby’s ponytail and said some funny things about it. One commenter shared, “That slap is pure gold! Can’t stop laughing, LOL!” Neither could we! We’ve watched the video at least five times!

@Leah Saray pointed out, “That ponytail definitely has a multifunctional purpose!” Jessica replied, “If I put a bell on it, Treehouse will lose her mind!”

If you have a kitty at home, you’ve probably experienced something similar. Cats love to play with hair, and even lick it sometimes. This is totally normal, and Uahpet explains why: “Cats are natural hunters, and their playful actions often mimic their hunting instincts. When your cat plays with your hair, they might be treating it as prey. The movement and texture of your hair can resemble small animals or insects, triggering their predatory instincts. This behavior is especially common in younger cats or those with a strong hunting drive.”

Other reasons they play with our hair include curiosity, trying to get our attention, or as a sign of affection. “Cats often groom each other as a way to strengthen social bonds. When your cat plays with your hair, they might be trying to groom you, showing that they consider you part of their family.”

In the case of Treehouse, we think she was probably just curious and had fun playing with it!
