Golden Retrievers are not known for their ferocious guard dog skills. They are more of the fluffy, tail-wagging, utterly adorable greeters, who would probably cuddle with a robber on the couch instead of scaring them away.
Chester, however, is trying to change that image. In a recent TikTok video shared by @chasin_chester, the pup can be seen practicing his “scary” faces—and let’s just say we are definitely (not) intimidated at all!
He has his nose wedged between two bars of the doggie gate, and as time goes on, his face becomes more and more distorted—but he is fully committed to the process. Mom posted the video with the caption, “This is who we chose to protect our home…” and as the dramatic music plays, Chester pushes his sweet face a little deeper into the bars.
The pup starts panting a little, but he’s still not deterred from the task at hand. His upper jaw becomes more smushed, and it’s clear he can no longer see his “opposition.” That’s when he unveils a new tactic: he smiles as big as he possibly can, showing off all his teeth.
Did Chester’s Tactic Work?
Viewers have given mixed reviews of the Golden Retriever’s scary faces. TikToker @Magdarodz seemed conflicted: “He is absolutely terrifying! I will run away from him!🥰😂❤️He’s so cute! My dream dog!” Obviously, she’s under his spell.
Supporter @Chris suggested, “Everything looks safe and sound to me. I’d say that it is a good job well done.” While @kkatz0522 agreed, “He is clearly the man of the house!”
Honestly, for me it’s the giant paw hanging through the bars, as if he’s ready to pounce at any minute! This sweet boy’s guard dog career may be questionable, but he was dedicated to the role. And if aggressive smiling through a baby gate counts as protection, his house is in excellent paws.
